The DLSU Green Archers outplayed the NU Bulldogs, en route to an 85-61 statement win to open Round 2 of the #UAAPSeason82 Men’s Basketball campaign at the Mall of Asia Arena on the 6th of October, 2019.
DLSU was on fire right from tip-off, unleashing a 26-9 first-quarter blitz, creating a lead too insurmountable for the Bulldogs. The Green Archers saw their lead at some segments of the game grow to 24, and the NU could only cut it at closest at 13.
The defense was key for the Green-and-White, as they held NU’s leading scorers, Shaun and Dave Ildefonso, to 11 points and 10 points, respectively. Justine Baltazar and Brandon Bates combined for 6 blocks and 37 rebounds, covering the interior with suffocating defense. NU Coach Jamike Jarin had no answer for Baltazar, who showed utter dominance with 25 points and 25 rebounds, a career-high performance. Andrei Caracut chipped in 16 points, 6 boards, and 5 assists, and one-and-done star Jamie Malonzo had 12 markers and 5 boards.
Not all is well for DLSU, though. Near the end of the 3rd quarter, Encho Serrano incurred an injury of a bad landing and was carried off the court. He tallied 8 points. His status and official diagnosis for the next game are still up for verdict.
The Green Archers now hold a 4-4 team record, at a deadlock with UST and FEU for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th in team standings. DLSU will look to do the seemingly impossible in their next game as it is set against the Ateneo Blue Eagles, who currently have an unblemished record 8 games into their campaign. Their matchup is set also at the Mall of Asia Arena, at 12:00 PM on October 13, 2019.
