On the afternoon of the 21st of September 2019, the DLSU Green Archers redeemed themselves after two consecutive losses by outplaying the Adamson Soaring Falcons 68-61 at the Ynares Antipolo Sports Complex.

The Taft-based squad entered the bout stuck at the 7th place in season standings, coming off a forgettable loss from the FEU Tamaraws, while Adamson had just won against the UST Growling Tigers, completing a huge 16-0 run to do a fourth quarter comeback in that game.

The first quarter saw DLSU trailing by as much as 12 points, caused by the hot shooting and playmaking from the Soaring Falcons. DLSU however managed to end the 1st quarter strong, closing it on a 10-4 run to lessen ADU’s advantage at 21-15.

The second and third quarter bore witness to Justine Baltazar’s redemption period for the game, coming off a forgettable performance from the FEU loss, finishing the 3rd quarter with 19 points and 8 boards. He also gave DLSU its first taste of the lead halfway through the 2nd period, 26-25. Joaqui Manuel also contirbuted key triples and good defense to keep DLSU in the lead, arguably his best game so far in the season, clamping down on ADU star Jerrick Ahanmisi to below single digit scoring in the first half. DLSU at the halftime buzzer was up 41-33, and entered the 4th period still up 52-49.

The fourth quarter was a tug-o-war for the lead, until the last two minutes saw the two teams at a 58-point deadlock. Aljun Melecio nailed a tough baseline floater at the 2:22 mark to break the tie, 60-58. To cap the efforts of the Green-and-White and overcome the losing streak, DLSU Team Captain and veteran Andrei Caracut nailed two clutch triples for a 66-61 lead they would never relinquish until the game buzzer sounded.

Justine Baltazar did everything for DLSU, finishing with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 2 blocks, while Caracut finished with 15 points. Emerging one-and-done star Jamie Malonzo garnered another double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Green Archers are now 2-3 in team standings, 5th overall in team rankings, and with 2 games left for the season, look to finish the first round strong as they face the UP Fighting Maroons (4-1, 2nd in team rankings) on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 4:00PM at the Mall of Asia Arena.
